FAQ

What to Expect Before, During, and After A Counselling Session

I’VE NEVER BEEN TO COUNSELLING BEFORE, WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT?

You can expect many general intake questions to help me better understand you and your situation. Counseling is seeking the support of a professional to assess your situation and identify your needs, then work towards goals to make the changes you want to make. As a therapist, I use different interventions which are based on your individual needs to help you make these changes. You will have the opportunity to share your concerns without providing details.  Sometimes, talking at length about details can be triggering so I use a trauma-informed sensitivity approach during intake.  You can also expect to be informed on treatment options and to be the final decision maker on the selection of the treatment that best suits your needs.

HOW LONG ARE THERAPY SESSIONS?

60 minutes (unless we need more time). Never more than 90 minutes with ART.

DO YOU OFFER ONLINE OR IN PERSON COUNSELLING?

I offer both online and in person. However, ART is only offered in person.

HOW OFTEN WILL I NEED TO COME IN AND HOW MANY SESSIONS WILL I NEED?

It depends on your individual needs. If ART is the treatment of choice, then you may be seen weekly for 1-5 sessions. Otherwise, supportive counseling is based on your needs.

WHAT IF I NEED TO CANCEL MY APPOINTMENT? WHAT IS YOUR CANCELLATION POLICY?

24 hours' notice unless it's an emergency. Failure to cancel results in a $75 fee before booking your next session.

HOW DO I KNOW IF ACCELERATED RESOLUTION THERAPY IS RIGHT FOR ME?

First, you need to be able to move your eyes left-right-left-right. Second, you need to be motivated to make changes, and open-minded about receiving treatment. If you can hold a thought and your eyes can move comfortably left to right along with your being motivated to make the changes you want to see, ART will work for you.

HOW DO I MAKE AN APPOINTMENT WITH YOU?

You can visit my contact page to get in touch for appointments.

WHAT TYPE OF CLIENTS DO YOU SEE?

I work with all age groups, individuals, couples, adolescents, and children.

WHERE IS YOUR OFFICE LOCATED AND IS THERE PARKING AVAILABLE?

276 Foord Street, Stellarton, Nova Scotia. There is plenty of parking at the front and back of the building.

HOW MUCH DOES THERAPY COST? WHAT METHODS OF PAYMENT ARE ACCEPTED?

My session fees are $160 per hour, which are payable at end of session. The methods of payment I accept are cash and e-transfer.

ARE COUNSELLING SERVICES COVERED BY EXTENDED HEALTH CARE PLANS IN NOVA SCOTIA?

It's important to check with your service provider for your amount of coverage. It could be fully or partially covered. It's also important to check before you come in, so there's no doubt about payment. Please check that your service provider covers my credentials, Masters of Education in Counselling.

WHAT HAPPENS DURING INTAKE? CAN I BOOK AN INTAKE SESSION?

All intakes are over the phone, you can expect me to ask a wide range of questions such as how long have your symptoms been present?  What have you tried in the past? What is your goal in coming to treatment?
